Symbio Kunstprijs 25-26
For whom
For the third time, Stichting Symbio is organizing an open call for the Symbio Kunstprijs. The foundation strongly invites visual artists who can offer new perspectives on ingrained traditions. Creators who have the courage to depict a world in transition towards a sustainable future.
Collaboration Oerol Festival
This open call is a collaboration between the Symbio Foundation and Oerol Festival. The winning work will be presented for ten days in June 2025 during Oerol Festival on Terschelling island. The assessment of the entries will consider how and to what extent the design relates to the special location at Oerol Festival. This will of course be discussed with the winning artist.
The jury
The professional jury consists of Marin de Boer (visual arts programmer Oerol Festival), Jan Pieter Ekker (chief art editor of Het Parool), Hans den Hartog Jager (art critic and artistic director Paradys 2025), Yuki Kho (programme maker and journalist), and Imke Ruigrok (independent curator for museums and institutions and founder and artistic director of RE_NATURE festival). Gemma Reuten (chair) is representing Stichting Symbio as a jury member. Hein de Graaf (visual artist) has an advisory role and Marijke Tiemersma (Hollandse Luchten) is the coordinator.
The prize
In addition to all the exposure at both events, the prize consists of two monetary awards: an amount of €7,500 as an artist's fee and an amount of a maximum of €15,000 for the realization of the work of art. Both amounts include VAT. The location, time and duration of the artwork or project to be realized for the realization of the artwork is the responsibility of the Symbio Foundation. The submission must include a project plan plus budget that includes realization costs and fees. See further under conditions.
Closing date
Entries can be submitted until November 1st, 2025. Entries received after November 1st 2025 will not be included.
Guidance for the artist(s)
The designer of the winning work will be guided in terms of content, artistry and production during the realization process by the Symbio Foundation and Oerol Festival.
